(Phoenix, Arizona) – The office of Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced defendant Bryan Patrick Miller (DOB 10/72) has been found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder, dangerous class one felonies, two counts of kidnapping, class two dangerous felonies, and two counts of attempted sexual assault, class three dangerous felonies.
In this matter, the defendant opted for a bench trial rather than a jury trial. Judge Suzanne Cohen found Miller guilty on all counts.
The guilty verdict comes nearly six months after the trial against Miller began. A notice of intent to seek the death penalty was filed with the court in May of 2015 by the County Attorney’s Office and the court will now move into the aggravation phase of the trial, which will also be heard by Judge Cohen.
“This verdict in the murders of Angela Brosso and Melanie Bernas took decades of work by law enforcement and prosecutors,” said County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. “After more than two decades of anguish, the families of these women now have someone held accountable for their heinous murders.”
