It's no secret that public service employees are dedicated to the work they do and the communities they serve. Public service is a higher calling for some, and our office boasts a workforce dedicated to achieving justice and keeping communities safe. A select few of these employees began their journey in the public service sector in one of the most honorable professions: serving our country's military. Within our office, 58 of our employees have served in our nation's military and continue to lead a life of service at MCAO as prosecutors, division chiefs, IT specialists, and paralegals.
One such employee has served and continues to do so as a reserve artillery officer with the 5th Battalion, 14th Marines out of Seal Beach, California. Zachary Graham, a deputy county attorney (DCA) in the Trial Division, started working with MCAO two years ago when he decided to pursue a career as an attorney after seven years of active duty with the Marine Corps. "I became interested in law and criminal justice while serving as a legal officer in the Marine Corps. I left active duty for the sole purpose of attending law school and becoming a prosecutor."
While maintaining a busy military schedule, Zachary appreciates the experience he's been able to have as a prosecutor for Maricopa County. "The highlight of my career so far has been the opportunity to join this office and immediately start doing trials in justice court. The autonomy this office gives you to handle your own case and trial load as a brand new DCA is great." Above all, Zachary is grateful for the support he receives from his bureau chiefs and fellow DCAs. They are always enthusiastic about taking over cases and help out as needed. "The support I have received from this office has been nothing short of fantastic."
With Veteran's Day approaching, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office would like to thank and honor our veterans, like Zachary, who put our nation's safety above their own.
