March is National Women’s History Month. This office planned a series of profiles featuring some of the amazing women of the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, like Chief of Staff Candice Copple.
Candice is a key member of the County Attorney’s Leadership Team and has been leading the office’s response to COVID-19 since the beginning. She has been instrumental in managing the day-to-day operations of the office and coordinating the deployment of nearly 1,000 employees who are working to ensure a minimal impact to the criminal justice system during this time.
Meet Candice Copple...
Candice Copple’s day starts out with her daily commute from Gilbert to downtown Phoenix, a trip that recently has been made a lot easier with the purchase of an electric vehicle. Once at 225 West Madison, the new address of the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, the real work begins.
To many, managing an office of over 1,000 employees would seem stressful to say the least, but to Candice the work comes naturally. “I like people, I like to learn, I like to laugh and I’m very fortunate to get all of that here at MCAO.” Her education and extensive professional experience in non-profit organizations, event planning, organizational management and most recently as Chief of Staff for Mesa Mayor John Giles have also helped make her an effective leader at MCAO.
She was thrilled when she got the call to join the office and feels grateful to be a part of the MCAO team. As a part of one of the founding families for the City of Mesa, Candice’s ties to the valley are deeply rooted and she appreciates being able to work for an organization that helps her community.
Through her short time here she’s appreciated the many ways employees have engaged with her. “People support what they help create, and I hope to continue to provide opportunities for employees to feel engaged with the work we are doing.”
In her personal life, Candice keeps herself engaged by travelling. During her lifetime, she’s traveled to all 50 states, and more than 30 countries. It was actually during one of her trips abroad in Ireland that she filled out her on-boarding paperwork. “I had to take my best guess on how many traffic tickets I’ve received in the past!”
Candice also enjoys the outdoors and frequently bikes, hikes, and loves to explore forest trails in Northern Arizona. When she’s not exploring a distant land or hiking trails, you can find her at home practicing her ukulele or hanging with her black Lab Dallas, chickens, nieces, and nephews.
