"As a governmental agency, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office has a responsibility to our community to provide essential governmental services. During times of crisis, the safety and security of this community is paramount and the role this office plays in the criminal justice system is more critical than ever.
At the same time, we are working to balance this role with our concern for the health and wellness of employees and their families. As County Attorney, I have directed leadership to do everything possible to help keep our employees and community safe, but to do so in a manner that is consistent with the law and our mission.
Throughout the weekend, leadership in this office has been in regular contact with our partners in the Criminal Justice System, as well as monitoring county and federal health advisories and recommendations from the Arizona Department of Health Services and the CDC. This office is complying with those guidelines and suggestions.
Moving forward, I have directed staff to not only plan for what we know today but to plan for what may occur in the coming days and weeks. This is a fluid situation but as an agency responsible for ensuring public safety, we will do everything we can to mitigate the impact that COVID-19 has to this community.
I want to personally thank the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors for their leadership during this time and applaud the efforts of Governor Ducey and state government for their continued attention to this matter."
