PHOENIX— Dion Earl (D.O.B. 03-13-1972) was sentenced today to 12 years in the Department of Corrections after being found guilty by a jury of Sexual Assault, Public Sexual Indecency and two counts each of Kidnapping and Assault.
“This Office is committed to seeking justice for victims and holding defendants who prey on and terrorize young women fully accountable for their crimes,” said Maricopa County Attorney Allister Adel. “This is the culmination of excellent work by local law enforcement and the prosecutorial team lead by Yigael Cohen, they all remained committed to ensuring today’s sentencing was possible.”
On September 12, 2017 police were called by a rideshare driver after a victim was placed in his car by the defendant with money to drive her home. On the drive she explained that she had been sexually assaulted by the defendant. She later told police she had gone to the defendant’s home as a new babysitter for his children. He asked her to go to the bedrooms of the home to check on the children, but when she went to that area she instead was pulled into a room by the defendant who was naked. He held her down on a bed and then forced her to touch him and he sexually assaulted her.
Almost a month later on October 22nd a second victim who had babysat for the defendant’s children before, told police she had also been assaulted by the defendant. She told investigators the defendant gave her a hug, but then refused to let go and instead pushed her onto a bed where he touched her and made her watch as he touched himself.
When interviewed about these assaults the defendant denied doing anything wrong and said in one case it was the victim who touched him sexually.
The defendant has other charges pending out of state.
