PHOENIX— On Saturday March 4th the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office will be supporting the efforts of the Damion Gosa Memorial Foundation in their 3rd Annual Freedom from Violence Walk.
The 5K will begin at 9 a.m. at South Pointe Elementary School, near 20th Street and Southern, walking a loop back to the school. Directly following the walk is the “Stand Up For Right” Block Party which should begin by 11a.m. depending on the pace of the walk.
The goal of the day is to bring the community together and support the dreams and goals of youth while steering them from violence.
“We have supported this event in the past and are happy to again as this organization continues the work of impacting youth in the Valley,” said Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery.
The walk is organized by the Damion Gosa Memorial Foundation, its focus is to empower, encourage, motivate, and inspire at-risk youth to rise above their environment. The Foundation was created to honor crime victim Damion Gosa, a 39-year-old father who was murdered during a violent home invasion. Gosa was known as an outstanding local athlete, playing basketball at a Valley high school and going on to pursue his career at the college level before returning back home to Phoenix.
