PHOENIX, AZ (December 13, 2010) – Jorge Alberto Busso Jr. (DOB 6/1/1987) has been charged with first degree murder and three counts of felony child abuse in connection with the death of four year-old Ramon Alejandro Haro Colin. Busso, who is in the country illegally, is currently being held without bail. Colin is the son of Busso’s girlfriend.
“Adults who harm children must be held accountable for their actions, especially when those actions result in the death of an innocent child,” said Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery. “The degree to which any society can be judged civilized is, in part, to the degree that we protect and defend the most innocent and defenseless among us. We will vigorously prosecute this case to the fullest possible extent to ensure that justice is done,” Montgomery added.
According to a report by Mesa Police, Busso discovered that Colin had soiled himself while the child was left alone in his care. Busso told police that he struck Colin and that the child’s head hit a wall. Colin was taken to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The first degree murder charge stems from Busso allegedly causing Colin’s death in the course of committing or attempting to commit child abuse. The three child abuse counts consist of a class 2 felony count for causing a head injury to Colin, a class 4 felony count for causing bruises on the Colin’s body, and a class 2 felony count for failing to seek medical care for the child. A physician who attended to Colin claims the child may have survived his injuries had he received medical attention earlier.
