PHOENIX, AZ (April 20, 2012) – Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery will trade his suit and tie for running gear to participate in Pat’s Run on Saturday April 21, 2012. Held annually at Arizona State University’s Sun Devil Stadium, the 4.2-mile Pat’s Run is the signature fundraising event for the Pat Tillman Foundation, created to honor the late Pat Tillman and his commitment to leadership and service. Proceeds from Pat’s Run directly support the Tillman Military Scholars program for active veteran service members and their spouses.
“I am proud to be joining so many others in honoring Pat Tillman’s legacy by running this course and supporting educational opportunities for the men and women who serve our country,” said County Attorney Bill Montgomery, who is also a decorated Gulf War veteran. “Pat’s example of selflessly giving back to his country serves as an inspiration to all of us at the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office as we strive each day to protect and strengthen our community,” he added.
In 2002, Pat Tillman proudly put his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals on hold to serve his country, one of many decisions over the course of his lifetime to help others and serve a cause greater than his own self-interest. Following Pat’s death in 2004, while serving with the U.S. Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan, his family and friends established the Pat Tillman Foundation. The annual Pat’s Run attracts more than 35,000 participants, volunteers and spectators from across the country. Together they run, walk and honor Pat’s legacy while raising important funds to support the programs created by the Foundation.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office is a sponsor of Pat’s Run and will have a booth at the event offering information and resources about crime prevention and public safety.
